St. Nikolaus Daycare Centre, Mendig
This recently completed daycare centre blends harmoniously into the gently contoured hill, its organic lines conveying the safety and protection afforded by the facility. With its multi-purpose, marketplace-like space, this daycare facility, which was designed by the Bonn-based architects Fischer | Summerer, almost resembles a city within a city. A few stairs lead up to a serpentine corridor that leads to the group-activity rooms and auxiliary rooms.
With seven groups, this daycare facility is one of the largest in its region. Moreover, thanks to the ingenious manner in which the sloping site has been used, the spaces on the upper level afford direct access to the outside.
