Karl Lagerfeld, BE-Antwerpen

Having opened concept stores in Paris, Berlin and Shanghai, Karl Lagerfeld’s first Belgian concept store has opened its doors in Antwerp. The entirety of the 138 square metre store bears all the hallmarks of the famed Karl Lagerfeld style. The store, which was designed by the interior designer firm Plajer + Franz and Diff erent by design architect Ilse van Loo, is notable for its minimalistic design, strongly contrasting colours, forms and surfaces, as well as a mix of classic and contemporary elements.
The store’s glass and mirror surfaces interspersed with matte surfaces, combined with the right lighting, lend the store the desired multi-dimensionality, while the interplay of light and perspectives creates subtle trompe l’oeil effects. The ceiling features lighting channels that are an integral part of the spatial geometry. The sophisticated lighting design is based on id entity® track lights, whose different beam angles and variously deployed sculpture lenses create the desired lighting effects. 35 watt HIT, 4,200 K spots with a colour rendering index (CRI) exceeding 90 were used.
